I SEE

I SEE
Dwelling in this body,
I lift up my eyes and see –
I see that I am not this body, not this name, not this nationality.
I see that the essential kernel that I am is not a Nigerian,
Not a “Christian”, not this successful man, not all these labels.
I see that I am on a journey.
At every turn of the wheel I am in a different carriage,
The one I needed best suited for that particular time.
At each stage a new body, a new name, a new nationality, a new religion? –
I am not all these changing forms of lower-lying matter.
I see that I am the eternal Spirit,
Experiencing creation in these epochs of time in the world,
Learning in the continuum of time in which I live.
I live ever and it is the same I that dress Myself for the different occasions each time.
I am not this cloak.
This is not My first time.
In the truest sense of who I am, I cling not to external labels of the world,
For I transcend the world.
I only sojourn here, learning.
I am a citizen of the Luminous World
Where I bear My true Name and My true Body.
There is nothing but life, and I live.
From the Great World, land of a thousand suns, we came down here to learn.
In the many lifetimes We have spent here so far,
We have graduated from one class to the next,
Until in the end We have, like Odysseus,
Gained enough experience and knowledge
To return Home as matured Spirits to the Luminous World.
